Sedona Landscape Painting – Desert Blossom – In The Beginning

In 1990, Desert Blossom was my first Prickly Pear Cactus to paint when I first started painting. I was terrified of the thought that I wouldn’t be able to create something folks would like, admire, or even pay money for. So, I took some workshops – 5 to be exact, and I was on my way to diving into the world of creativity. With the foundation I had built from the classes, I just experimented. Initially, I threw away a lot of art or gave it away, thinking that none of it was worth saving. But, something inside me kept prompting me to continue, persevere, and ultimately paint. The result was Desert Blossom. Now that I’m a contemporary Sedona artist, I’m grateful to be creating these extraordinary southwest paintings. This was before YouTube and Google.

That was Then

And This is now. What kicked my career into high gear was the request from Warner Bros. to license my oil painting, “Creekside Cathedral.” Featured in the New Media series Snatchers, produced by Stage 13, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment.

My New Vivid, Mystical Whimsical Direction

Since licensing my art to Warner Bros., I’ve been looking to develop a specialized niche. I now utilize my whimsical and vibrant color palette, for which I’m famous. That’s when I came upon an offer for a “Modern Abstract” workshop here in Sedona at the Sedona Art Center. This art workshop was only the second workshop I pursued in the 15 years since I moved to Sedona. As you will witness, I took this new and stylized way of painting, like a duck to water. I call it “Vivid, Mystical Landscapes.”

While I love painting with watercolors, my current love uses acrylics, heavy body, and liquid acrylics. My current direction is creating southwest Sedona landscape paintings and any form of Sedona art, including desert flower landscapes.
