Enchantment
As a contemporary Sedona artist, I enjoy creating Sedona landscape paintings. Enchantment is the epitome of magical large mural art, available as a Sedona art print. Other panoramas are “Rugged Serenity,” Sailing Sedona’s Sky, “Fire in the Sky,” Iconic Saguaro, Desert Sentinel, Cathedral Moon, Buddha’s Kaleidoscope, and“Monument Valley, to name a few. Boynton Canyon is one of the most scenics of the box canyons that make this desert Sedona landscape so famous. This acrylic painting is my interpretation of Sedona’s Boynton Canyon, a magical place to hike.
Southwest Sedona Landscape
Boynton Canyon inspires this Sedona landscape that is Enchantment. Always a favorite for its outstanding scenery with prickly pear cactus in this desert landscape. Lately, it has become even more so since it developed a reputation as a site of a spiritual energy vortex. Whether or not you follow this belief, you’ll no doubt agree on the beauty found among these towering buttes, crimson cliffs, and the natural desert gardens that are divine. The shift happens the moment you see the vibrant hues of Boynton Canyon. As a Sedona artist, I begin to daydream and think of words to describe this one-of-a-kind setting.
Just Around the Corner
The palate site has ancient cliff dwellings in the red sandstone cliffs, built from 1100 to 1400 ce by the Sinagua people of the ancient Pueblo peoples. The cliff dwellings are constructed under south-facing overhangs for shelter and winter sun. The Sinagua people planted crops and made pottery in the area. Palatki and Honanki, another nearby archaeological site, had the most significant dwellings in the area from 1150 CE to 1300 CE
Rock art
There are pictographs and petroglyphs at the Palatki site, including some that predate the cliff dwellings. Many of the whimsical pictographs on the rock walls are from the Sinagua. However, those created by peoples of the Archaic period in North America include more abstract pictograph symbols. These drawings are 3,000 to 6,000 years old, and some of the petroglyphs, estimated to be 5,000 to 6,000 years old.
