Cathedral Rock, Arizona’s most photographed site, offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the valley with noticeable spaces between its majestic spires. The hike is steep but brief, spanning only 1.2 miles (1.9km) and reaching an elevation of approximately 744ft.
The Spot
This “Spot” on Cathedral Rock is a popular location for taking photos. Visitors from all over the world come to capture its beauty, and it’s especially sought after for wedding and engagement photo shoots. It’s widely regarded as one of the most picturesque spots.

It’s rare to have the Cathedral hiking spot to yourself, but I’ve found that the best time to go is during the rain. On this particularly beautiful and stormy day, my group was hoping to have the top to ourselves, but when we reached the saddle, we were greeted with a break in the clouds and the most beautiful light flooding in from the sun. It was one of those absolutely magical and breathtaking moments. I usually avoid taking photos in this spot since I live here and like to leave it for those who may only see it once in their lifetime.

That evening, I walked to this spot, threw my hands in the air, and took in all the beauty and magic around me. The feeling of pure joy that flooded my soul was overwhelming, so I closed my eyes and embraced it.

My Experience as a Sedona Artist
